PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bulldogs qualified for the coed nationals this weekend, placing 6th, only 3 points out of 4th, in the NEISA Coed Championship/US Coast Guard Alumni Bowl.

Saturday's racing had champagne conditions, with temps in the low 70s and a building southerly that ranged between 10-16 knots for the entirety of the day. 10 races were able to be completed in these optimal conditions. In a steady seabreeze, starting and boat-speed were crucial for success, with not many chances to find a clear lane after the start. With the day being mainly based on execution and boat speed, the Bulldogs sailed well with the Bulldogs recording many top six finishes throughout the day.

Sunday's racing was not as pleasant, with sailors waiting most of the morning for the wind to fill. Once it did, conditions were not optimal, with large shifts and angle changes through a full range of 360 degrees throughout the day. Due to the 3:00pm college sailing cutoff time, only four races were able to be completed on Sunday.

Sailing for the Bulldogs were skippers junior Nic Baird and senior Malcolm Lamphere with crews sophomore Graceann Nicolosi and Claudia Loiacono in A division and Sonia Lingos-Utley in B division. Baird, Nicolosi, and Loiacono placed 2nd in A divison, 2 points out of first.  Lamphere and Utley placed 9th in B division respectively.

Although the Bulldogs were not able to recapture the New England title, they sailed well and are advancing to the college sailing semi-finals held by Old Dominion University in late May.

After an intense ten weekends of sailing, the Bulldogs will be getting a well deserved two-week break to study for exams before they return to the water. They will begin their postseason training on May 11th and will be working hard to be at the top at the nationals.
