Bulldogs Tied for Third After First Day of Coed Eastern Semifinals

NORFOLK, Virg. – After a long day of shifty wind conditions the Bulldogs stand in fifth place, tied for third, in the Eastern Semifinals of the Gill Coed Sailing National Championship.

The Bulldogs persisted through a day of extremely tricky conditions, beginning with a delayed start time due to lack of wind. One race in each division was completed ina light southwest breeze before the wind shifted to the north and the course was reset. The final six races of the day were sailed in 4-6 knots in oscillating rainfall. The eastern division sailed the first day of the semifinals in FJs and will sail the second day in Z40s.

14 more races are scheduled to determine the top nine boats from each divison that will progress to the Gill Coed National Championship.

Sailing A division for the Bulldogs are junior Nic Baird and first year Sonia Lingos-Utley. They currently stand in fifth place in A division with 18 points, just 6 points behind the divison leaders. B division was sailing by senior KB Knapp and first year Shawn Harvey. The bulldogs rank in fourth place in B division and facing a similar slim 6 point gap between them and the two teams tied for first in B division.
