The Bulldogs fell short of qualifying for the match race nationals, taking a 2-1 loss against Dartmouth, the eventual regatta winners, in the quarterfinals last weekend. They also finished ninth at the Captain Hurst Bowl and fifth at the Sacred Heart Invite.
Results for Yale:
Match Race New England Championship (Marblehead) – 5th (9-4 record)
Captain Hurst Bowl (Dartmouth) – 9th (277 points)
Sacred Heart Invite - 5th (104 points)
A tough result at the match race qualifiers leaves the coed team out of the fall national championships. Shawn Harvey reported that the Bulldogs "sailed very well despite having the hardest matchup in the quarter finals. Some things didn't go our way, and we weren't able to capitalize at the right time." The team did sail well, coming out as the No. 3 seed despite a breakdown that cost them the top spot in the preliminary round.
A notable performance this weekend came from Nick Hernandez and Catherine Webb, who took second place at Dartmouth in A division, just two points behind the leaders, Stanford. The duo, at times, led A division, but Stanford's four first-place finishes in a row at the end of the event put them on top.
