Bulldogs Take 3 of 4 from Harvard

Alex Boos comes through with a pinch-hit single to give Yale the lead in the seventh of game one.

Yale closed out a 3-1 weekend at Harvard with a split on Sunday to keep a two-game lead in the division standings.

The Bulldogs (19-14, 10-2 Ivy League) came back from 5-0 to win game one.  Harvard won the second game 12-7.  

Dartmouth split a pair against Brown to remain two games behind the Bulldogs.  The Big Green and Bulldogs square off in a four-game series next weekend in West Haven.

In the opener, Alex Boos delivered a pinch-hit single to score Alec Hoeschel to break a 9-all tie in a four-run seventh to lead Yale to victory. 

Simon Whiteman and Benny Wanger each had three hits and three RBI, while Tim DeGraw scored four runs.  Whiteman capped a three-homer weekend with a two-run shot in the fourth to give Yale a 6-5 lead.  

Whiteman went 3 for 5 with three RBI in game one.  In four games this weekend, he hit .381 with nine RBI.  

Alex Stiegler pitched into sixth in another slugfest in the series, surrendered nine runs and left with the game tied. Griffin Dey came on to record the final out of the sixth and earned his fifth win of the season.  

Harrison White robbed a would-be two-run homer in right from Rob Rothenberg in a big defensive play in the bottom of the first.  

In a wild game two, Harvard scored five runs in the bottom of the first and Yale countered with six in its next at bat.  Wanger capped the second-inning rally wth a three-run homer.  

The Crimson took the lead for good with four in the fourth to chase Yale starter Eric Brodkowitz

Team captain Richard Slenker went 3 for 4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in the second game.  

The Bulldogs return to action to host Iona on Wednesday.
