Selected For Third Time This Season After Helping Bulldogs Clinch Spot In Ivy League Tournament
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - With a berth in the Ivy League Tournament on the line, Miye Oni turned in one of the most impressive halves any player has had this Ivy League season. He scored 24 of his game-high 26 points over the final 20 minutes as the Bulldogs held off a Columbia comeback en route to an 83-73 victory. Not surprisingly, Oni has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for his efforts.
Oni was simply dominant against the Lions, going 8-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. At one point he scored 16 straight points for Yale. In the first half, he was more of a facilitator for the offense, dishing out five of his eight assists.
Oni nearly finished with a triple double, scoring 26 points, grabbing nine rebounds and adding eight assists in 36 spectacular minutes.
In Yale's win over Cornell a night earlier, Oni also played a key role, scoring 11 points and adding four rebounds and four assists.
It is the third time this season Oni has been honored.
Blake Reynolds, who scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting in the win over Cornell and had 17 points and six rebounds in the victory over Columbia, was named to the Honor Roll.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season this weekend by hosting Penn on Friday and Princeton on Saturday. Then, it's on to the Ivy League Tournament on Mar. 10-11. Yale is the third seed and will meet the No. 2 seed (still to be determined) on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 3 p.m. The championship game is Sunday, Mar. 11 at noon.
