DERBY, Conn
. – The race for the Blackwell Cup was not much of a contest, and the No. 2 ranked heavyweight crew in the nation is perfectly fine with that. The Yale varsity won by three boat lengths today to grab the Cup for an eighth straight year with easy wins over Penn and Columbia on the Housatonic River to improve its record to 4-0.

The Bulldogs, who have won 15 consecutive dual or triangular races since the start of the 2015 spring racing season, posted a time of 5:35.3 in great conditions on a sunny, cool morning.

The Quakers came in at 5:45.2 while the Lions finished at 5:51.1.

Yale picked up four victories, including the third and fourth boats beating Columbia. The second varsity (5:47.6) won by nearly nine seconds over Columbia.

"This was the most complete race for us [1V] all season," said Steve Gladstone, Yale's Craig W. Johnson '68 Head Coach. "Our guys performed in all phases of the race: the start, body and finish. We are very pleased with the strong overall performance including the 2V, 3V and 4V.  The group is growing in confidence."

The Bulldogs will race for the Carnegie Cup next Saturday at Princeton against both the Tigers and Cornell.
