GREAT DAY FOR YALE FOOTBALL FAMILY

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Center Larry Ross snapped the ball to Pat O'Brien and the quarterback dropped back before suddenly flipping the ball to his left for split end John Spagnola, who caught the backward lateral, looked down field and fired it to tight end Bob Krystyniak.

That happened yesterday on the 18th green at the Course at Yale with a golf ball, and that foursome, among the many who took part in the 2017 Yale Football Golf Outing, ended up taking the prize for low net in the highly successful fundraising tournament.

The football play, called "Downtown Left," went for 77 yards in a 35-28 win over Harvard at Boston in 1978. It was re-enacted twice upon request for video during the golf tournament, and the four Class of 1979ers even ran it in reverse.

That was part of the fun in an uplifting day organized by the Yale Football Association to benefit the program. However, it seemed like everyone who participated saw benefits from the event. Lots of old friendships were enhanced, special people were honored and there was a great sense of family in the Yale program.

There was a moment of silence for Don Scharf '55, who passed away this year, a preview of the 2017 Bulldogs by Tony Reno, the Joel E. Smilow '54 Head Coach, and many special prizes were won by members of the football family.
