ITHACA, N.Y.-The Cornell Invitational golf tournament has completed with the Yale men's golf team (+32) ending the day in a tie for 3rd place with Siena College, five shots behind the tournament host and winner, Cornell University (+27).
The Bulldogs finished Saturday in fourth place, with Siena College leading the tournament. A strong Sunday round of 289, though, put them in a tie with Siena and one shot behind Colgate (+31). The only two schools with better final-18s were the two schools that beat out the Bulldogs for the title, Colgate and Cornell. Rain and poor weather delayed the start of play, but all teams were able to complete their final rounds.
Senior Jonathan Lai (+1) had another very strong showing, shooting an even-par 71. That performance moved him into 3rd place in the tournament individually. Sophomore James Nicholas (+7) matched Lai with a final-round 71 of his own, finishing the day in a tie for 8th overall. Freshmen Jordan Weitz (+8) and Eric Hall (+11) also performed well in their second ever college-level tournament, finishing with 73 and 70 final rounds, respectively.
Next week, the Bulldogs host the Macdonald Cup at the famed Yale University Golf Course, which is just a short drive from campus.
