Larkin, Hayden Score Goals

CANTON, N.Y. – Five different St. Lawrence skaters scored goals as the No. 20 Saints defeated Yale 5-2 at Appleton Arena in ECAC Hockey action.

The Bulldogs got the last two goals of the game in the third period, from Adam Larkin and John Hayden, but it was too little and too late.

Yale (2-4, 1-4 ECAC) had a 30-28 edge in shots on goal, including an 18-8 difference in the final frame.

The Saints, unbeaten over their last six games, improved to 7-4-2 overall, 4-0-1 in conference by scoring once in the first and twice in each of the last two periods despite being held scoreless on five power-play chances.

Sam Tucker, the sophomore Yale goalie from Wilton, Conn., stopped 23 of 28 shots in his first collegiate start. He had seven saves in the first, 10 in the middle frame and six over the last 20 minutes.

Larkin, the junior defenseman from Clarkston, Mich., notched his third goal of the year at 8:02 of the third on a shot from the point. Rookie blueliner Chander Linstrand picked up the assist.

Hayden, who now has a team-high six goals and eight points, converted on a power-play chance late in the contest to cut the margin to three goals.

The Elis, who had a chance to seriously cut into a 5-1 lead, had a brief 5-on-3 advantage in the third period followed by the remainder of a five-minute major. There were a few good chances before the Elis were whistled for a penalty to even things up.

The Blue is back in action Saturday night at Clarkson against another hot team. The Knights have won four straight after edging Brown tonight, 3-2.
