Elis Get 3-3 Draw With Late Goals
POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Yale men's hockey team came back from a late, two-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 ECAC Hockey overtime tie against Clarkson at the Cheel Center tonight.
The Bulldogs, who had a 36-25 edge in shots, erased a pair of Golden Knights leads to earn the conference point.
The home team got on the board first midway through the opening frame.
The Bulldogs (2-4-1, 1-4-1) evened the score seven minutes later on a pretty pass from Charlie Curti to Chris Izmirlian. Curti sent a long pass for the senior forward who gathered it in outside the blueline. Izmirlian raced in alone on the Clarkson net and flicked a shot off the left post to make it 1-1.
The Knights used a two-man advantage to get started on a two-goal second. They scored once on a 5-on-3 and then again up one man. The two goals came 34 seconds apart and gave Clarkson a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Elis, who will face Clarkson (7-5-2, 4-1-1) again Friday at Notre Dame's tournament, made it 3-2 on a Hart to Hart connection. Henry Hart's shot from the point was re-directed by Ted Hart, who was in the low slot, at 7:58.
The visitors got the equalizer six minutes later on a power play. Hayden took a pass from Joe Snively and skated out from behind the net before getting to the dot in the left circle and firing a shot inside the near post to tie it up.
Patrick Spano, Yale's senior goalie, made 22 saves including 10 in the first period.
