Bulldogs to Compete at Virginia, Auburn, Princeton This Weekend

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's track and field team will split its athletes across three meets this weekend. Several of the Bulldogs' top sprinters will compete at the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University, several distance runners will be at the Virginia Relays, and an array of athletes across events will compete at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational.

Six Elis will compete at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Alabama, this weekend, facing some of their toughest competition of the season. Junior Paedyn Gomes will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, which he won last weekend at the Harvard-Yale meet. Gomes holds the second-fastest time in the Ivy League this season, and has yet to lose a race.

The Bulldogs' top sprinters, including freshman Vincent Vaughns and senior Marc-Andre Alexandre, will also compete at the Auburn meet. Freshman Kyle Macauley will run the 100-meter dash. Vaughns, Alexandre and sophomores Connor Hill and Alex McIntyre will compete in the 200-meter dash. Macauley, Vaughns, Alexandre and McIntyre will compose the 4x100-meter relay team for the Bulldogs at this competition. Though they are competing against a higher caliber of competition, we could see Vaughns and Alexandre in particular make some splashes in the sprint events this weekend.

Many of the team's top distance runners will be at the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia. Senior James Randon will compete in the 1500-meter run for the second time during the outdoor season, joined by fellow senior Andre Ivankovic, juniors Matt Chisholm and Thomas Gmür, and sophomore Trevor Reinhart. Four Bulldogs - senior Spike Sievert, junior Adam Houston and freshmen Jonathan Lomogda and Armstrong Noonan - will compete in the 5000-meter run. The Bulldogs are also scheduled to field a 4x400-meter relay team. Senior Austin Loewen will race the 110-meter hurdles.

Several Bulldog jumpers will also compete at the Virginia Challenge. Sophomore Austin Laut, who has placed first in each meet he has competed in since spring break, will compete in the pole vault. Freshman Bruno Jednacak is scheduled to compete in the long jump, and sophomore Jimmy Shih will appear in the triple jump.

In a meet a little closer to home, the Bulldogs will send a sizable delegation to the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton, where they will face off primarily against ECAC competition. Several middle-distance and distance runners will be in action at this meet. Six Bulldogs could take the track in the 800-meter run, including senior Tim Cox, junior Michael Yuan, sophomore Dylan Lesko, and freshmen James Lewis, Austin Stoner, and Kohl Swift. Freshman Aidan Pillard is slotted to run the 1500-meters, and senior Spike Sievert, junior Ryan Brady, and freshman Armstrong Noonan will compete in the 5000-meter run. Two of Bulldogs' throwers will compete at Princeton as well - junior Jake Hoops in the shot put and sophomore Marcus Downs in the discus throw.

The Virginia Challenge and the Larry Ellis Invitational both begin Friday morning and continue through Saturday. The events in which the Bulldogs are competing at the War Eagle Invitational will all occur on Saturday.
