LEWISBURG, Pa. – In the midst of a season filled with close losses, on Sunday afternoon the Yale field hockey team found itself facing a team with a similar trend: Bucknell. The two teams had combined for six one-goal losses entering the game, so it was no surprise that this contest came down to one goal as well. In the end it was Bucknell that prevailed, 1-0, on a goal at 37:00 by midfielder Estelle Palandjian.

Last season's game between these two teams had been more lop-sided with Bucknell taking a 4-1 win while outshooting Yale 20-11. The first half Sunday was tilted heavily in the Bison's favor as well (8-2 in shots, 8-0 in penalty corners), but thanks to three saves by senior goalie Emilie Katz the game was scoreless at halftime.

Palandjian's game-winner from the left side hit off a Yale defender and went past Katz just two minutes into the second half. The Bulldogs hung tough and wound up outshooting the Bison 6-5 for the half, but could not get any shots past goalkeeper Emily Finn. She finished with five saves. Bucknell (5-7, 1-2 Patriot League) is now 24-14 at home over the past five seasons.

Yale (4-7, 0-3 Ivy League) visits Dartmouth next Saturday.
