DAVIS, Calif.- The Bulldogs traveled to Davis, California Friday to take on some tough competition out west. The meet at UC Davis included the host school, Stanford and the Boise State Broncos. Yale finished the day in fourth with a team score of 188.900. The Broncos came away with a commanding victory, scoring 195.300. Stanford finished second (193.800) and UC Davis was third (193.275).
Floor exercise was the best event of the day for the Bulldogs, including five season-best performances. The team score of 48.525 included a season-best performance by Kiarra Alleyne. The sophomore's score of 9.800 landed her in a tie for second, which was the top finish for Yale on the day. Freshman Jade Buford also delivered a season best, scoring 9.775 and finishing in a tie for sixth place. Emma Firmstone continued the streak of season bests, scoring an impressive 9.775. Senior Anella Anderson and freshman Sofia Menemenlis also scored season-bests. They scored 9.625 and 9.600, respectively. Freshman Rebecca Chong rounded out the floor exercise rotation for the Bulldogs, scoring 9.375.
On vault, Chong was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, scoring 9.675. Firmstone was not far behind, scoring 9.625. Anderson and Buford continued their all-around pursuits, both with scores of 9.475. Megan Ryan made her first appearance of the day on the event, scoring 9.450. Freshman Anna Jennings made her competitive debut for the Bulldogs at UC Davis, scoring 9.350 on the event.
Junior Allison Bushman was once again the top finisher for the Bulldogs on the uneven bars (9.675). Buford, who earned a season-best score of 9.650, closely followed. Tatiana Winkelman also had a strong performance for the Bulldogs, scoring a season best 9.625. Anderson, Ryan and Roxanne Trachtenberg also competed on bars for Yale, scoring 6.600, 8.975 and 8.350.
Alleyne continued her successful day on her second specialty event. Her score of 9.600 on the balance beam was the top score for Yale on the apparatus. Firmstone scored yet another season best on the balance beam (9.450). Buford followed closely with a score of 9.425. Anderson, Chong and WInkelman rounded out the rotation for the Bulldogs, scoring 8.800, 8.950 and 8.975.
Yale had two competitors in the all-around. Buford scored a huge season best. Her score of 38.325 landed her in fourth place amidst the tough competition. Anderson finished in sixth place, with a score of 34.500.
The Bulldogs will Travel to Philadelphia January 21 to face Ivy Classic rival, Penn. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
