PHILADELPHIA – The Yale women's lacrosse team opened Ivy League play on Saturday at No. 12 Penn, the defending Ivy co-champions. The Quakers utilized a quick start -- scoring the first 10 goals of the game -- en route to claiming a 15-4 win at Franklin Field.

That initial run by Penn (4-0, 1-0 Ivy League) was ended by a pair of first years (attacker Rachel Anderson, off a feed from midfielder Payton Vaughn), who combined to get Yale's first tally. That came at the 4:47 mark of the first, and less than 90 seconds later another first year -- midfielder Jill Gollob -- scored off an assist by sophomore midfielder Sam Higgins for Yale's second goal.

Yale (2-2, 0-1 Ivy League) got within 12-4 with 11:52 to play, but Penn scored the final three goals of the game to pull away.

Sophomore midfielder Olivia Markert finished with a pair of goals, while Anderson and Gollob had one each. Senior attacker Izzy Nixon had six draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Drake played the first half, making three saves, while first year Clare Boone played the second half and made five stops.
