SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Racing concluded on Friday at the Sperry Top-Sider Women's National Championship and the Yale women's sailing team finished strongly in fifth place. A total of 18 races were completed on Thursday and Friday in Stanford and San Diego Yacht Club's fleets of FJs.

Representing the Bulldogs in A division were sophomore Casey Klingler and senior Emily Johnson. Johnson was excited to finish her college career strongly; together, Klingler and Johnson placed fourth in A. They were just one point out of third place.

In B division, skippers senior Marly Isler and sophomore KB Knapp with junior crews captain Natalya Doris and Clara Robertson placed eighth.

Racing proved challenging on Thursday and Friday. Getting a good start and being able to have freedom off of the line to make and execute tactical decisions proved to be especially important. On Thursday, the breeze started out from the south and shifted west in the afternoon, ranging from 8-12 knots. Westerly winds dominated the day on Friday, with a range of 5-8 knots.

While this was Isler and Johnson's last regatta with the Yale sailing team, Doris, Klingler, Knapp and Robertson will all return next year for another shot at the Gerald C. Miller Trophy for the top-placing team at the Women's National Championship.
