Chavarin Scores For Yale

BURLINGTON, Vt. – This time, Yale couldn't quite dig itself out of an early hole. Aerial Chavarin's goal with 10 minutes left in the second half pulled the Bulldogs within one of Vermont, but Yale couldn't get the equalizer. The result was a 2-1 loss to the Catamounts at Virtue Field.

In each of their previous two games, the Bulldogs fell behind early but rallied to tie. A two-goal deficit, though, proved a little bit too much to overcome.

Yale outshot UVM 7-2 and had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks but found itself trailing 1-0 at halftime thanks to a Julia Smith goal at 3:12.

Smith scored again midway through the second half to give the Catamounts a 2-0 lead.

Considering the Bulldogs hadn't scored a goal in their previous six trips to Burlington, the two-goal margin seemed very comfortable.

Chavarin, though, added some drama with her team-leading fourth goal of the season at 79:45.

Michelle Alozie set up the goal when she beat a Vermont offside trap with a through ball that sent Chavarin in alone. Chavarin avoided diving UVM goalkeeper Coco Speckmaier and placed it into the net.

Yale pressed over the final minutes but couldn't find the tying goal. Carlin Hudson had the best chance but her shot went high at 81:16.

The Bulldogs, who fell to 3-2-2 on the season, return to action on Thursday when they host Hartford. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
