The Yale women's squash team continues Ivy League play this weekend against Cornell and Columbia. The No. 6 Bulldogs travel to Ithaca, N.Y., on Saturday to play the Big Red then travel to New York City to play the Lions on Sunday. Both matches have a noon start time. This weekend will feature the Bulldogs' first conference matchups since their 9-0 win over No. 10 Brown on Dec. 6.
Yale has been on a roll to start the season, winning all five of its matches so far. The team last played on Monday in a doubleheader against Mt. Holyoke and Amherst. The Bulldogs did not give up a single game in any of their matches, rolling to a perfect 54-0 for that day.
Yale faces a slightly more difficult challenge in this weekend's matchups, as Cornell and Columbia are both currently ranked in the top 10. The No. 8 Big Red are an undefeated 2-0 on the season, but have not played a match since their round-robin in mid-November. This will be the first Ivy League match for Cornell, which finished last season ranked seventh in the country with a 10-9 record. The last time the Bulldogs faced the Big Red was in January of last season, when Yale swept every match on its way to a 9-0 victory.
Yale will have a short turnaround after Cornell to prepare for the match on Sunday versus No. 7 Columbia (3-2). After losing four seniors to graduation, the Lions have reloaded by adding six freshmen to their squad. The Lions have experience playing against top-tier opponents, as they have already played matches against No. 3 Trinity and No. 5 Stanford this season, which they lost 8-1, 7-2, respectively. Yale last played Columbia in January of last year, a match the Bulldogs won by a score of 8-1.
