NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five incoming first years competed at national events this past week. Alessandra Baldari, Izzi Henig, Raime Jones and Olivia Paoletti all competed at the 2018 Speedo Junior National Championships in Irvine, Calif. On the opposite coast, Ali Truwit competed at the 2018 International Swim Coaches Association (ISCA) Summer Senior Championship in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Baldari swam four events at the 2018 Speedo Junior National Championships. She finished fifth in the C Final of the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:57.52, and eighth in the C Final of the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:01.83. Baldari also competed in the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter individual medley.
Henig competed in four individual events and one relay. She placed eighth in the C Final of the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 26.51, and placed 44th in the 100-meter freestyle. She helped lead her club team, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics, to an 11th-place finish in the 4 by 100-meter freestyle relay. Henig also swam the 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter butterfly.
Jones competed in six events: four individual events and two relays. Jones placed 30th in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:04.42, and 45th in the 100-meter butterfly. She also competed in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle. Jones led off the 4 by 100-meter freestyle relay (23rd place) and the 4 by 200-meter freestyle relay (17th place) for her club team, Metroplex Aquatics.
Paoletti swam six individual events at the Speedo Championships. She finished 25th in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:57.55, and 38th in the 200-meter breaststroke. Paoletti also competed in the 100-meter breaststroke, the 100-meter freestyle, the 200-meter individual medley and the 400-meter freestyle.
Truwit competed in eight events over the course of five days at the ISCA Summer Senior Championship. She placed second in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:04.60. She finished sixth in both the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle, with times of 2:05.93 and 4:25.85, respectively. Truwit finished 10th in the 50-meter freestyle, 12th in the 100-meter freestyle and 11th in the 200-meter individual medley. She also swam two relays for the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club, leading the 800-meter freestyle relay to a second-place finish, and the 400-meter medley relay to a ninth-place finish.
