Bulldogs Drop Match to UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Yale women's tennis team dropped the tail end of their Florida road trip 6-1 to UCF. The Knights are one of the best teams in the country, coming in at No. 18 in the Oracle/ITA National Tennis Rankings.

The Knights took the No. 2 doubles match by a score of 6-2 to kick things off. The Bulldogs rebounded with a big win, as Jessie Gong and Samantha Martinelli, who are ranked No. 52 in the ITA doubles rankings, took down the 22nd ranked doubles team in the nation in Ksenia Kuznetsova and Valeriya Zeleva. From there, UCF seized the doubles point with a close win in the No. 3 matchup.

UCF showed why they are one of the best teams in the nation during singles play, winning the next five matches to wrap up the win. Martinelli competed well against Zeleva, ranked 29th in the country, but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-4. Raissa Lou got the Bulldogs on the board, winning her match by a score of 7-6(6), 6-2 in the last match of the afternoon.

The Bulldogs will take next week off before the begin a spring break trip to the West Coast.
