NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The women's track and field team convened last Wednesday to honor its athletes for yet another successful season coming to a close. At this banquet, the athletes voted on who would be captain for the upcoming 2017-18 season, selecting junior distance runner Dana Klein.
She will succeed senior Kate Simon, who led the Bulldogs well this season in her role of captaincy. "I'm very excited for Dana and I know the team will do very well under her leadership. We have a large freshman class coming in next year, and I know she'll be able to help them acclimate to Yale and to our program," commented Simon in regards to Klein's election
Despite not competing this season, she has been an exemplary member of both the cross country and long-distance teams. In particular, she did an outstanding job this past cross country season in helping the team advance to Nationals, finishing as one of the scorers at the National Championship. Yet even when she was not able to compete, she still was an active member on the team. As senior captain Simon stated, "Though she was unable to compete, her commitment to our team never waned. She was a consistent force all year long and supported the entire team regardless of whether or not she was healthy enough to run. Dana is a not only a fierce competitor, but also a reliable and kind friend. I have no doubt the team will continue to find success next season."
Regarding the recent election, Coach Shoehalter stated, "Dana is a steady mature leader and sets a great example for everyone on the roster. I am really looking forward to working with her next year".
