LONDON – Yale alum and Olympian Kate Grace '11 advanced to the semifinal of the 1,500-meter run at the IAAF World Championships this evening after a strong performance this afternoon in the first round. Up against the world's best middle-distance runners, Grace held her own in the world's most renonwn track meet. She finished seventh with a near-personal-best time of 4:04.74, qualifying on time in the fastest heat of the evening.

Grace will join the other two American women in the semifinal on Saturday evening, with the first of two heats kicking off at 2:35 p.m. EST. Grace will be the no. 12 seed in this 12-woman final. The top five in each heat and the next two fastest based on time will advance to the final.
