Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced

10 Bulldogs Honored

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2016-17 Academic All-Ivy honors in its winter sports today. Ten Bulldogs were recognized. They were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages.  

TJ Dembinski, Sr., Men's Squash, Political Science (New Haven, Conn.)
All-Ivy selection for the second time in his career; competed in the CSA Individual Championships top draw; team captain.

Mike Doherty, Sr., Men's Ice Hockey, Political Science (Reading, Mass.)
Scored seven goals and had nine assists in 33 games; finalist for the ECAC Student-Athlete of the Year; played 115 games in his career.

Sam Downey, Sr., Men's Basketball, Political Science (Lake Forest, Ill.)
Honorable mention All-Ivy selection; second in the Ivy League in field goal percentage and third in rebounding; named to CoSIDA Academic District 1 first team; helped Bulldogs reach the championship game of the Inaugural Ivy League Men's Basketball Tournament.

Ben Lerude, Sr., Men's Swimming & Diving, Computing and the Arts (Reno, Nevada)
Finished fifth in the 1,650 freestyle and eighth in 1,000 freestyle at the Ivy League Championships; three-time finalist in 1,650 at the Ivy League Championships.

Shiyuan Mao, Sr., Women's Squash, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (Singapore)
Ended the season in the No. 4 position for the Bulldogs, who finished sixth in the nation; team captain.

Katherine Miller, Sr., Women's Fencing, Global Affairs (New York)
Finished eighth in the épée at the NCAA Championships; team captain; represented Brazil at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.

Lena Munzer, Sr., Women's Basketball, Economics (Highland Park, Ill.)
Finished ninth in the Ivy League in scoring and assists and fourth in three-point field goals made; named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team.

Reed Srere, Sr., Men's Fencing, History (Washington)
First team All-Ivy selection; finished third in the saber at the 2017 Ivy League Round-Robins; NCAA Regional qualifier in the saber; team captain.

Tatiana Winkelman, Sr., Women's Gymnastics, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (Lexington, Mass.)
Finished fourth on the bars at the Ivy Classic; helped the Bulldogs win their first ECAC Championship in school history; team captain.

Kina Zhou, Sr., Women's Swimming & Diving, Psychology with Neuroscience (Niskayuna, N.Y.)
First-team All-Ivy as part of 200, 400, 800 freestyle and 400 medley relays at the Ivy League Championships; second team All-Ivy in 50 freestyle.
