NEWPORT, R.I. – Despite a disappointing sixth-place finish at the New England Match Race Championship, the Yale coed sailing team retains the number one spot in the College Sailing Rankings, posted earlier this week. This weekend the Bulldogs also placed second at the Captain Hurst Bowl and ninth at the Providence College Invitational.

The match race team faced light winds on Saturday and 20-knot wind speeds on Sunday. Representing the Bulldogs were senior skipper Ian Barrows with crew senior Clara Robertson and junior Christopher Champa.

While their finish did not earn them a spot at the National Championship, they remain optimistic and look forward to passing down their knowledge to the younger sailors that will be competing in the event next school year.

In Enfield, N.H., the Bulldogs were just eight points short of the win, placing second overall. Lake Mascoma brought light and variable wind conditions, making for tricky lake sailing.

Representing the Bulldogs were senior captain Mitchell Kiss and junior crew Caroline Colwell in A division, junior skipper Malcolm Lamphere and senior crew Chandler Gregoire in B, and junior skipper KB Knapp and freshman crew Graceann Nicolosi in C.

Kiss and Colwell placed first in A division, while Lamphere and Gregoire placed fifth in B and Knapp and Nicolosi second in C.

At Providence College, freshman skipper Chrissie Klingler with crews senior Amelia Dobronyi and freshman Julia Greenberg placed second in A division, while junior skipper Patrick Buehler with crews Dobronyi and sophomore Claire Rossi de Leon placed ninth. With their scores combined, the team placed ninth overall.
