WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Yale University baseball team put together a run of three wins in four games during its weeklong stay at the RussMatt Invitational. Unfortunately, the trip began and ended with a pair of losses that erased the good feelings from that run.

The final game of the Invitational saw the Bulldogs take on Ohio State, which put together two big innings to turn what could have been a close game between the two teams into a commanding victory.

Brad Hutton and Greg Solomon each had two hits and three RBIs to help lift Ohio State to a 12-6 victory over Yale at Chain O'Lakes Stadium, sending the Bulldogs back to New Haven with a 3-5 record. The Buckeyes improved to 6-4 with the win.

Hutton belted a two-run single to fuel a four-run rally in the fifth inning that erased a 4-2 Yale lead and gave Ohio State a 6-4 lead.

After a run in the sixth inning that extended the lead to 7-4, Ohio State put the game out of reach with three more runs behind a two-run single from Solomon.

Ryan Cypret and Brad Hallberg also had two hits apiece for the Buckeyes.

Jacob Hunter had two hits and three RBIs for the Bulldogs. Cam Squires added a pair of hits and an RBI. Yale starter Brook Hart took the loss, striking out six batters in five innings of work. He scattered nine hits and allowed six runs, but only two of them were earned.

Yale returns to Connecticut for a pair of games this week at Central Connecticut on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games begin at 3 p.m.
