WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Scott Politz struck out a career-high 11 in a complete-game 7-1 victory over Brown on Friday afternoon.
Benny Wanger had three RBIs and smashed a two-run, go-ahead homer to right in the second to give Yale a 2-1 lead. It was Wanger's second of the season.
Thanks to Politz, Yale never trailed after that.
The junior first team All-Ivy selection, Poltiz, retired the final seven batters he faced, including a strike out of his final batter.
The Bulldogs (5-14. 2-2 Ivy) exploded in the eighth with a five-run inning that was capped by a three-run homer from Alex Stiegler. It started at the top of the order.
Tim DeGraw (2 runs scored) led off with an infield single to third and Simon Whiteman followed with a bunt single. Next up, Wanger doubled down the left field line to score DeGraw and move Whiteman to third.
Dey singled to left to score Whiteman and Wanger advanced to third. Stiegler came up next and launched a homer over the left center field wall.
After three total runs were scored in the first inning by the two teams, Politz and Brown starter Collin Garner settled in and matched zeros through the seventh.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11:30 a.m. Both will be nine-inning games.
