Ronai Also Goes Deep In 15-3 Victory
Yale is off and running in Ivy League play. Jake Gehri belted two home runs, including a grand slam, and knocked in five as the Bulldogs cruised to a 15-3 victory over Brown in their Ivy opener in Providence. Brian Ronai also homered, and Scott Politz went seven strong innings on the mound, striking out seven.
The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the weather forced a change to a single game. A doubleheader is now on tap for Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m.
Gehri's first homer was a solo blast leading off the third inning. He hit the grand slam in the fourth and finished the day 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
Later in the fourth, Ronai hit a two-run homer. He was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.
There were a number of offensive stars for the Bulldogs, who banged out 15 hits. Harry Hegeman was 3-for-5 and added five RBI, Mason LaPlante and Cal Christofori each added two hits, and Griffin Dey had one hit, scored two runs and knocked in one.
Yale had two big innings in the game, scoring five runs in the second and six in the fourth.
All that offense was more than enough for Politz, who yielded seven hits and three earned runs in seven innings to earn his fourth victory of the season.
