Whiteman went 3 for 5 and scored two runs, while Dey was 3 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. Yale brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth before the final out was recorded in an offense-dominated game.
The first six batters in the Yale lineup had at least two hits and the team pounded out 15 hits but left 10 on base. Brian Ronai opened the scoring on a fielder's choice ground out to score Whiteman. The Bulldogs held the lead until they surrendered three in the third.
Teddy Hague capped the scoring in the inning with a sac fly. Hartford responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning and led the rest of the way.
Yale plated a run in the sixth on a wild pitch and another in the ninth on a Hague single to score Mason LaPlante.
The Bulldogs host Cornell for a three-game series beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
