Bulldogs Defeat Cornell, 7-2, on Monday Afternoon

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs used a five-run fifth and Kumar Nambiar tossed seven solid innings in a 7-2 victory over Cornell on Monday afternoon. 

With the win, Yale improved to 4-2 in conference play and 10-13 overall.  Cornell dropped to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in league play.  

Simon Whiteman, who went 3 for 3 today, dropped a bunt single in the fifth that scored two runs on a throwing error to give Yale the 2-1 lead. Tim DeGraw led off the fifth with a walk, Harry Hegeman followed with a bunt single and both scored on the Whiteman bunt.

Mason LaPlante scored Whiteman on a single up the middle.  Brian Ronai capped the rally in the fifth with a two-run homer to left center to score LaPlante and open up a 5-1 edge.

Yale scored two more in the sixth.   DeGraw started the rally in the sixth with a one-out infield single.  He stole second and scored on Hegeman's triple to left.  Whiteman scored Hegeman on a sac fly.

Nambiar allowed two earned runs, gave up five hits and struck out seven to earn his first win of the season.  

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday for a game at Fairfield. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
