Named Rookie Of Week For Fifth Time
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale had a pair of big second halves in sweeping Columbia and Cornell over the weekend. Miye Oni played a key role in each and has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.
In Friday's 87-78 victory over Columbia, Oni scored 13 of his team-high 22 points in the second half as the Bulldogs overcame a 40-38 deficit. He also contributed eight rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes.
Oni was even better in the second half of a 78-71 win over the Big Red. He scored 17 of his 19 points after the intermission as Yale outscored Cornell by seven points.
In the two games, Oni shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the field, 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from three-point range and 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the foul line.
In addition, Sam Downey was named to the Ivy Honor Roll after averaging 13 points in the two victories.
The Bulldogs, who have won 11 of their last 13 games and sit a half-game behind first-place Princeton in the Ivy League, host Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend. Both games are 7 p.m. tips.
