National Champs Well Represented on the Thames
HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – Yale Heavyweights past, present and future are competing in the UK's most significant sporting event this month, the 2019 Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames River.
Dan Williamson '22 and Fergus Hamilton '22 are racing in a pair for the Silver Goblets & Nickalls' Challenge Cup. Their first race is on July 4 against a pair from the US Naval Academy.
Incoming first-years Dominic Sullivan and Luke Miles are both racing in the junior men's 8 event for the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup. Sullivan rows for the Shrewsbury School, and his first race was today. Miles, whose first race is also today, rows for Radley.
Incoming first-year Alex Potter '23 is racing for Sydney Rowing Club in a club 4 for the Wyfold Challenge Cup. He competes today as well.
Charlie Elwes '19, Thomas Digby '20, Lenny Jenkins '20 and Vlad Saigau '21 are all trialing for the British Under-23 squad this summer. Elwes and Digby will be competing at Henley in a 4 for the Visitors' Challenge Cup (first race on Thursday). Jenkins and Saigau race in an 8 for the Ladies' Challenge Plate (first race on Friday).
Sholto Carnegie '18 and Ollie Wynne-Griffith '17 are both training with the British Senior squad. Carnegie will be racing in a 4 for the Stewards' Challenge Cup on Sunday and Wynne-Griffith will be racing in an 8 for the Grand Challenge Cup on Sunday.
