NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale Lightweights will head to Worcester, Mass., this Sunday to race in their first of two six-lane championship races for the season -- the EARC Eastern Sprints Regatta. At stake are the Jope Cup for overall team points, the Wright Cup for first varsities, the Cornell Cup for second varsities and the Kilpatrick Cup for the 3V.
Yale has entered four lightweight eights and a varsity four. In the heats, the top three finishing crews advance to the afternoon finals.
Yale's third varsity eight starts the morning of racing in their 8:20 a.m. heat, drawn against Columbia, Cornell and Georgetown.
At 9:48, Yale's first varsity eight will race in a heat against No. 1 Cornell, Penn, Georgetown and Dartmouth.
Yale's second varsity eight will race their heat at 10:48 against Princeton, Harvard, Georgetown and Dartmouth.
To cap off the morning of racing, Yale's varsity four entry will race a straight final at 11:12 against Brown, Northeastern, Georgetown and Princeton.
Yale's fourth varsity eight will race in a straight final to start the afternoon at racing. At 1:24 p.m., the Elis will race for medals against Harvard, Navy, Columbia, Pennsylvania and Cornell.
Depending on their morning performance, the other eights entries will race in either afternoon petite or grand finals. This page will be updated with afternoon finals information as the morning of racing progresses.
This is Yale's last full-team competition; after the Sprints the Y150 squad will break down into a varsity eight and two varsity fours at the IRA National Championship Regatta, to be held at Lake Natoma, Calif., on June 2.
