Not only was his 8-under 62 the lowest round of his career, the junior Oklahoma State golfer established a new standard for The Course at Yale on the second day of the NCAA Men’s Golf Regional.

  • Bulldogs Finish 13th in Linger Longer Invitational

    The Yale men’s golf team competed Saturday and Sunday at the Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Ga. against a slew of top programs. The field included No. 3 Texas (-24), which won the event, No. 15 Oklahoma (-13) and No. 20 North Carolina (-17). Playing at the par 72, 7,073 Great Waters Golf Course, the Bulldogs (+12) finished 13th after three rounds, just three strokes behind the 12th place team, Georgia State (+9).

    Amidst a competitive field in which nine teams finished under par, the Bulldogs (+4) ended day one tied for 12th at the Linger Longer Invitational. Playing at the par 72, 7,073 yard Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, G.A., Junior Joe Willis (-2) and Senior Will Davenport (-1) led the Bulldogs with finishes in the top 30 after two rounds.

    The Yale men’s golf team will begin its Spring season in Eatonton, Ga., at the 54-hole Linger Longer Invitational on Saturday. After a successful fall season in which the Bulldogs emerged ranked first in the Ivy League, the team looks forward to playing against top programs such as Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma.

    Yale came in fourth place at the Inverness Intercollegiate after its five golfers shot a combined 300 in the third round of play. Yale sat in third place after two rounds and was in contention to win the tournament, but could not do quite enough to overtake the top teams at this event.

    The Yale men’s golf team repeated as champions at The Doc Gimmler, hosted by St. John’s at Bethpage Red, shooting a 272 in the third round on Saturday to come away with a five-stroke lead over second-place Loyola-Maryland in the 14-team field. The Bulldogs’ three-round total of 823 (-17) was just three strokes shy of their championship-winning total of a year ago (820).
