Class of 2023 Bulldogs Announced

 

NEW HAVEN. Conn. Seven new student-athletes from three different states and one Canadian province join the Yale men's hockey team for the 2019-20 season.

 

The new class includes four forwards, two defensemen and a goalie. Five of the newcomers skated last year in the British Columbia Hockey League while one was in the United States Hockey League and another in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. There are three from Massachusetts, two New Yorkers and one each from Ohio and Saskatchewan.

Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL): Totaled 17 goals, 42 points (56 gp) in 2018-19… Had 5 in playoffs… Helped lead Chiefs to regular season championship…

 

Nichols School (Buffalo, NY): Played hockey and lacrosse all 4 years at The Nichols School in Buffalo… Captain for both teams senior year… Graduated with honors and the award of the Alumni Cup… Career included 58 points in 42 games played in the CISAA… Led the CISAA with 10 goals and 23 points in 2016-17

 

Personal: Pronounced don-HOWZ-er… Son of Thomas and Patricia… Youngest of 3 kids, older brother Kyle, and older sister Shelby

 

Connor Hopkins

West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL): Played 37 games in 2018-19, posting a .912 SP and 3.26 GAA, adding a .922 SP and 3.08 GAA in 7 playoff games. Was named BCHL Player of the Week for 9/23/2018. Received West Kelowna Warriors Rookie of the Year as well as the West Kelowna Warriors Academic Achievement Award for 2018-2019.

 

Belmont Hill School (Belmont, MA): Led Belmont to Elite 8 birth in 2016-17… Made over 1,500 saves on .921 SP in 3 seasons. Received the Belmont Hill Ken Martin Hockey Trophy for Most Valuable Player in junior season in 2017-2018. Awarded ISL All-League honors in both sophomore and junior seasons. Also played baseball and received ISL 2nd Team All-League in 2017-2018.

 

Personal: Connor Patrick Hopkins is the son of Paul and Charlene Hopkins… Father played football at Bentley. Brother, Chris, plays baseball at Bentley.

 

Quinton Ong

Canmore Eagles (AJHL): Played two seasons and amassed 35 goals and 85 points in 114 games… Helped Eagles to conference semifinals with 9 points in 10 playoff games. 

 

Saskatoon Contacts (SMHL): Played two seasons and scored 93 points over 91-game career… League rookie of year in first season and team MVP in final year… Team reached Telus Cup and was finalist in the prestigious Mac's Midget Tournament… 2016-17 SMHL Second All-Star Team

 

Personal: Son of Dennis and Shelley Ong… Has four siblings… Finished with high distinction in each of his four years at Bishop James Mahoney High School, where he also played football, golf and badminton.

Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL): Played 2018-19 season… Had 33 points and added 7 in the playoffs… Led team with 10 power play goals… Served as alternate captain.

 

Johnstown Tomahawks (NAHL): Totaled 45 points in 57 games as a rookie in 2016-17… Named to 2016-17 NAHL All-East Division Rookie Team… Named team Rookie of the Year

 

Personal: Pronounced Row-an… Son of Julia and Thomas Rowan… Father played football at University of Toledo… Enjoys boating and is interested in economics

Vernon Vipers (BCHL): Played center under head coach Mark Ferner and notched 21-19-40 in 54 games during 2018-19 regular season… Had 6-9-15 in 21 games during the playoffs… Reached BCHL finals and lost to Prince George… Rookie of the Year for the Vipers and the Wayne Buck Memorial Award. 

Rivers School (Weston, MA): Played center from 2014-18 for Coach Shawn McEachern… Recorded 51-56-107 in 117 games through 4 seasons… Captained team to a St. Sebastian's Tournament and Belmont Hill/ Nichols tournament championship along with a NEPSAC elite 8 semi-final… Earned All-ISL and All-New England awards… Reached elite 8 finals junior year and the small school finals sophomore year… All- ISL honorable mention… School Honor Roll junior and senior years.

 

Note: Notched 32-40-72 in 62 games through two fall seasons for the River Rats under Ross Pasquatonio.

 

Personal: Son of Ted and June Wooding… Has younger sister, Josie, attending Bishop Feehan… Wants to study business and economics.

The Rivers School (Weston, MA): Played 8th-12th grade… 100 career points… Two-year captain… Three-time ISL Eberhardt League champion… All-league 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17… Second Team All-New England 2016-17… Eberhardt League MVP 2016-17… Played 4 years on Varsity Baseball (senior captain)… 2017 James A. Navoni Athletics Prize Winner… Harvard Book Prize winner… Cum Laude Society at Rivers graduation
