Bulldogs Start Strong at Nationals, Greenberg ’18 Places Third in 50 Free

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the Yale men's swimming and diving team – junior Henry Gaissert and recent alums Aaron Greenberg '18 and Jonathan Rutter '18 – competed in their first events on day two of the US Winter Nationals. 

Both Gaissert and Greenberg kicked off the meet with the 50-meter freestyle. Greenberg qualified for the 'A' finals as the fifth seed and Gaissert qualified for the 'C' finals. In the evening, Greenberg climbed the rankings for a third place podium finish with a time of 22.71. Gaissert also took the top spot in the evening's 'C' finals. Moreover, Gaissert achieved an Olympic Trials cut with his time of 22.94. 

Rutter took on the 200-meter individual medley for his first event of the meet, qualifying for the 'A' finals as the second seed. Rutter was unable to hold his position in the evening, finishing seventh with a time 2:04.36.

The meet will continue on Friday morning with the 400-meter individual medley, where Rutter will get another shot as the ninth seed in the event. More information about the meet can be found here.
