NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's track and field team will be traveling to Princeton on Saturday to compete in the Sam Howell Invitational, hosted at the Weaver Track and Field Stadium on Princeton's campus. The meet was initially set to take place over multiple days this weekend, but competition has been compressed into Saturday only, due to impending poor weather on Friday.
The meet will get started at 12:00 p.m. Saturday with Darius Jing in the long jump, followed by Jimmy Shih in the triple jump. This will be the season debut for both of these athletes. Austin Laut will be competing in the pole vault, to follow the completion of the women's pole vault which starts at 12:00 p.m. Spencer O'Neill will be the sole Bulldog represented in the high jump, also at noon. At 2:00 p.m., at West Windsor fields, Jack Dunn will be competing in the hammer throw (Note: all throwing events will take place at West Windsor Fields, not Weaver Stadium).
The running events will begin at noon with the 4x100m relay squad of Ekrem Ayhan, Kyle Macauley, Juma Sei and Vincent Vaughns. Ayhan, Sei and Vaughns all had fantastic starts to their seasons last week, so they should be primed for a good weekend. Following the 4x100m relay will be the 400m dash at 1:20 p.m., featuring Fergal Burnett Small and Connor Hill. At 1:50 p.m. Macauley, Alex Young and Phil Zuccaro will compete in the 100m dash. Macauley is entering the event with the seventh-fastest seed time.
At 2:30 p.m., Austin Stoner, Kohl Swift and Alex Whittaker will take to the track for the 800m run – Whittaker has the top seed, Swift the fifth and Stoner the seventh. Following them will be Jackson Chapman in the 400m hurdles, set to start at 2:55 p.m. Ayhan, Sei, Young, Zuccaro, Chris Colbert and Alex McIntyre will all be competing in the 200m dash at 3:30p.m. Sei and Ayhan hold the ninth- and tenth-fastest seed times, respectively. The Bulldogs will field two 4x400m relay teams – team "A" will consist of Colbert, Hill, Macauley and McIntyre; team "B" will be comprised of Burnett Small, Chapman, Zuccaro and Jonathan Ascher. The Bulldogs' "A" team is entering the meet with the fourth-fastest seed time.
At 5:20 p.m., Robert Miranda and Harrison Smith will be making their debuts in the 3,000m steeplechase, one of the more difficult and interesting events on the track. Following them will be the 800m seeded run at 6:05 p.m., featuring Cameron Wyman with the seventh-fastest seed. Finally, concluding the day for the Bulldogs will be Evan Pattinelli in the 5,000m run at 7:40 p.m., under the lights.
