NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Across the country, members of the Yale men's track and field team are putting the finishing touches on preparation for the team's upcoming trip to Great Britain. In all, 16 Yale men will make the once-in-a-lifetime flight. Along with their Harvard compatriots, they will attempt to continue their winning run against the combined Oxford and Cambridge team that they will face on June 29: the American schools have not lost since 1993.

The trip will take the Bulldogs the length and breadth of the British Isles. The first leg is in Limerick, Ireland, where, on Saturday, June 22, the Bulldogs will compete against the University of Limerick. The meet holds special significance for the Irish university because it will be the first event at their new track and field facility. After the competition, the Bulldogs will celebrate the grand opening by touring the university with their host before tucking into the first banquet of the trip.

From Ireland, the Bulldogs will fly into London before heading west to Oxford where they will tour the historic university – making an important stop at the famous Ifley Road track where Roger Bannister first broke the four-minute mile. Inspired, they will drive north, into the Midlands and the city of Birmingham, where they will compete against the University of Birmingham – a team not to be underestimated.

The final, most important leg of the journey will take them to Cambridge where, on June 29, they will partake in the eldest modern-day international athletics competition: the Harvard-Yale-Oxford-Cambridge dual meet, which occurs every two years and rotates between the universities. To celebrate that this is the 125th time the teams have met, a ball will be held at Trinity College in the evening following the event before the squad returns on Sunday, June 30th.
