Jen Berkowitz Named Ivy League Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jen Berkowitz, who played a crucial role in each of Yale's three consecutive wins, has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She is the first Yale player to be the sole recipient of the award since Janna Graf on Dec. 10, 2012.

The junior forward finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks in Tuesday's win at Illinois State. Berkowitz shot 7-for-12 from the field in the game, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range, and she also made both of her free-throw attempts.

Berkowitz was even more efficient on Sunday, finishing with 16 points and 7 rebounds on 6-for-7 shooting (2-for-3 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the line) in 23 minutes of play. Yale needed every one of her 16 points, as the Bulldogs came away with a 71-70 overtime win at Holy Cross.

Between the two contests, Berkowitz averaged 17 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1 assist per game on 68.4% shooting (80% from 3-point range) and 100% from the free-throw line. Berkowitz now leads the Ivy League by a wide margin in field goal percentage. She is shooting 65.2% from the field while the next closest player, Harvard's Jeannie Boehm, has a 53.7% mark.

After her exceptional recent run, Berkowitz now leads the team with 12.7 points per game. She ranks second with 7.5 rebounds per game, behind freshman Megan Gorman's 8.2. Gorman was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll this week after averaging 5.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in Yale's two wins. She blocked 3 shots against Illinois State and registered 3 steals against Holy Cross.

Senior Meghan McIntyre was also named to the Honor Roll this week. She scored a career-high 22 points and added 4 assists in Yale's overtime win against Holy Cross on Sunday. She made a career-high six 3-pointers against Holy Cross after hitting three from long distance against Illinois State.

The improved play from Berkowitz, Gorman and McIntyre comes just in time for Yale's busiest week of the season. Yale begins a stretch of three games in four days with a contest at Wagner on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
