NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the fifth time this season, first-year forward Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) of the Yale women's basketball team has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. The league announced the award on Monday.
Emsbo scored 15 points in each game as Yale swept Harvard and Dartmouth this past weekend at Lee Amphitheater, moving into second place in the league. She had a team-best three blocks Saturday as Yale held Dartmouth to its second-lowest point total of the season (49). She had seven rebounds Friday and six Saturday.
Emsbo also earned the Rookie of the Week honor for the weeks of Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Jan. 14. No other Ivy League player has earned the award more than three times. She is second in the league in rebounds per game (8.8) and blocks per game (1.9). She is second on the team in scoring (12.2 points per game). Defensively, the six-foot-five Emsbo has helped Yale hold its opponents to a .356 shooting percentage -- the second-best defense in the league.
Emsbo was a five-star ESPN recruit out of Lakewood High, and ESPN ranked her as the No. 34 best recruit in the country (sixth-best at her position). She was the Gatorade Player of the Year for Colorado.
Emsbo is in Branford College at Yale. Her identical twin sister, Kira, plays for Princeton.
Yale (13-6, 3-1 Ivy League) visits Princeton Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ESPN+, NBC Sports Philadelphia+).
