ALBANY, N.Y. – A late rally by Albany spoiled the 2019 season opener for the Yale women's lacrosse team Saturday at Casey Stadium, as the Great Danes scored the game's final four goals for a 15-13 win.

Yale (0-1, 0-0 Ivy League) took a 9-6 lead in the first half, highlighted by three straight goals from first-year midfielder Jill Gollob. She was one of seven first years to start for the Bulldogs, and that class wound up producing seven goals and three assists.

Albany (1-0, 0-0 America East) fought back within one at 11-10 midway through the second half, but goals by sophomore midfielder Olivia Markert and first-year attacker Rachel Anderson -- sandwiched around a goal from Albany -- made the score 13-11 Yale with 8:12 to play.

The Great Danes defense tightened from that point on, and Yale wound up with only three shots on goal after that -- all of them saved by Albany keeper Erin Leghart. Meanwhile, the Albany attack reeled off four straight goals, including two from midfielder Kendra Harbinger, to overcome the deficit. Albany also won three of the final four draw controls, overshadowing an 11 draw control day for Yale senior attacker Izzy Nixon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Drake made eight saves in her Yale debut. Markert finished with five points (3-2-5) to lead the Bulldogs in that category. Gollob finished with four goals, while classmate midfielder Payton Vaughn had three assists. Sophomore midfielder Sam Higgins (1-2-3), Nixon (1-1-2) and first-year attacker Rachel Anderson (2-0-2) all had multiple-point outings. First-year attacker Olivia Penoyer and junior midfielder Hannah Logan added goals.

Yale hosts Quinnipiac Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Reese Stadium.
