Scored Game-Winning Goal Vs. Dartmouth
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Noelle Higginson, who scored the game-winning goal in Yale's victory over Dartmouth on Saturday, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Shortly after entering the game for the first time in the second half, Higginson fired a shot from 20 yards out that beat Big Green goalkeeper Casey Cousineau and snapped a scoreless tie.
It was the first career goal for Higginson, who was also strong in the midfield, winning a number of 50-50 balls to help the Bulldogs preserve the lead.
This is the first Ivy League Rookie of the Week award for Higginson and the third of the season for the Bulldogs. Aerial Chavarin also earned the honor on Aug. 29 and Sept. 26.
If there had been award for the runner-up rookie this week, it likely would have gone to Yale goalkeeper Alyssa Fagel. Fagel, who was named to the Honor Roll, made seven saves, including a couple of difficult ones once the Bulldogs got the lead, to post her first career shutout.
Yale plays at Cornell on Saturday at 1 p.m.
