Bulldogs Likely To Face Nation's Leader In Pitching Wins

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team plays its final non-league doubleheader of the season on Wednesday, and the Bulldogs will be facing one of the hottest teams in the nation. Army, winners of 10 straight games, visits Dewitt Family Field beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (10-30) also have been playing well, winning three of their last five games, including splitting a four-game series at Dartmouth over the weekend. Chelsey Dunham had a big week in the circle and was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Tuesday. She won two games, posted a 2.45 earned run average and struck out 10 in 20 innings.

Offensively, Yale has added the long ball to its arsenal in recent games. The Bulldogs have belted four home runs in the last six games after hitting only one in the first 34 games. Tori Balta's two-run shot that led to a 3-2 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday was the biggest. The other three all came from Christy Nelson, who now has 13 in her career which is four shy of the school record.

If the Bulldogs go deep on Wednesday, there is a good chance it will come off of Army freshman pitcher Morgan Lashley, who has 27 wins, which is tied for the most in all of Division I softball. She has pitched 254 of Army's 305 innings so far and has the decision in 38 of the 46 games. Lashley was one of two Army players honored by the Patriot League this week. She was named the league's pitcher of the week, while outfielder Amanda Nguyen was selected as the player of the week.

Army is 31-15 overall and has clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.

Yale and Army are playing for the seventh straight year. The Black Knights swept a doubleheader at West Point, N.Y., last year. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 21-6.
