Bulldogs Score Two In Seventh To Win 4-2

Yale's Sunday success continued. Miranda Papes tossed a complete-game three-hitter as the Bulldogs rallied to defeat Brown 4-2 in Providence. Kortney Ponce went 2-for-3, including delivering an RBI single in the seventh inning that snapped a 2-2 tie.

The Bulldogs have now won the Sunday finale in each of their five Ivy League series.

Papes struck out four in earning her second win of the season.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the sixth inning, Annie Tarte led off with a triple and scored on Olivia Vinyard's single to tie the score.

That set the stage for the dramatic seventh inning. Carlin Hagmaier started the winning rally with a triple to the right-centerfield gap. Ponce followed with a single to left. After a walk to Giovy Webb and a throwing error by the Brown pitcher loaded the bases, Tarte knocked home the fourth run with a fielder's choice.

Papes then shut down Brown in order in the bottom of the seventh, striking out pinch hitter Grace Ladd for the final out.

Yale had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Sydney Grobman doubled and scored on Hagmaier's ground out to first.

Brown answered with two runs in the third.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 8-7 in Ivy League play, have a non-league doubleheader with Sacred Heart on Wednesday before hosting a three-game series with Columbia over Easter weekend.
