Teams Play Single Game Saturday, Doubleheader Sunday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale wraps up the home portion of the 2019 regular season when Columbia visits 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium this weekend for a three-game series. Due to the weather forecast, the teams will now play a single game on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Sunday, with an 11:30 a.m. first pitch. ESPN+ has the video.

Prior to Sunday's doubleheader, Yale's four seniors will be honored. Carlin Hagmaier, Terra Jerpbak, Shelby Kennedy and Cristina Teems all have made outstanding contributions to the Yale softball program both on and off the field over the last four years.

Yale's final two series of the regular season come against the two teams who are tied for first place in the Ivy League. Columbia and Harvard both sit at 9-3. The Bulldogs travel to Cambridge next weekend. Yale sits at 8-7 in Ivy play and has already surpassed last season's league win total.

There are a number of Bulldogs among the Ivy statistical leaders. Sydney Grobman leads the league with 42 hits and is second with 25 RBI and 64 total bases. Kennedy is the league leader with 15 stolen bases and tied for the league lead with 24 runs scored. She and Hagmaier are also tied for the league lead with three triples apiece.

In the circle, Jerpbak has a league-best 76 strikeouts and is tied for third in innings pitched (91.1) and wins (7).

Columbia (17-16 overall) features one of the Ivy's top hitters in Max Ortega, who is batting .402 with 10 doubles and 30 RBI. The Lions have scored 156 runs, which is tied with Penn for the most in the league. Sommer Grzybek has a league-best eight home runs. Madison Canby (6-7, 3.38 ERA) and Alexa Pinarski (10-6, 4.70 ERA) have split time in the circle.

Columbia has two Ivy series remaining following this weekend, and all six games are home. The Lions host Penn on Apr. 27-28 and Brown on May 4-5.
