NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team gathered one final time at the spectacular Carol Roberts Field House for its annual post season banquet. Overlooking 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium, Head Coach Jen Goodwin reflected on a season that saw the Bulldogs post 10 Ivy League victories for the second time in the last three years, including a 7-1 mark on Sundays. In addition, the team awards were announced.

Sophomore Kortney Ponce was the recipient of the team's Most Valuable Player Award. Ponce led the team with nine doubles, despite missing 15 games with an injury. Overall, she batted .337 with two home runs and 21 RBI while playing an outstanding defensive shortstop. Ponce made a dramatic return from her injury by going 7-for-10, including belting a pair of home runs, in Yale's three-game sweep at Cornell. She was named the Ivy League Player of the Week for her performance.

Ponce also received the Barbara Chou Leadership Award.

The Andy Van Etten Coaches Award was shared by first year Maya Seifert and senior Cristina Teems. Seifert, who showed her versatility by playing a number of positions, started 28 games and batted .296 while overcoming an injury. Teems has dealt with injuries throughout her career but was still a very valuable contributor. Associate Head Coach Barbara Reinalda, who presented the award, spoke glowingly about Teems, the first three-time recipient of the award in school history.

The four seniors – Teems, Carlin Hagmaier, Terra Jerpbak and Shelby Kennedy – also were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the program.
