CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts- The Yale women's tennis team (12-8, 3-1 Ivy) found themselves on the losing end of a 4-3 thriller against rivals Harvard (15-6, 3-1 Ivy) early Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs built an early 3-0 lead, but the Crimson were able to fight back in a match that proved to be a reverse of fortunes for Yale; they came back from a similar deficit to beat Harvard earlier in the season.
Doubles play was a tight affair, setting the tone for what was a thrilling match up and down the board. After exchanging matches in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Caroline Amos and Kathy Wang gutted out their match in a tiebreak, winning 7-6(5) to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead on the afternoon.
The Bulldogs built on their lead with straight sets victories in No. 1 and No. 3 singles by Samantha Martinelli and Raissa Lou, respectively. From there, Harvard won the next four singles matches, the last two coming in decisive third sets
Yale returns home on Sunday and will attempt to rebound from their first Ivy League loss against Dartmouth.
