At the Raleigh Relays, the Yale women's distance team put together several stand out performances to start off their outdoor season.

Senior Melissa Fairchild came away from the meet today with one of the biggest personal bests on the team. She clocked a 4:30.69 in her 1,500 meter race, nearly a 4 second improvement from her previous best. Fairchild's fast time is in part due to her hard-fought last lap, where had the fastest closing 400 meters of any competitor in her heat. First year Sevanne Ghazarian put up a competitive mark in her first collegiate 1,500 meters as well, with a time of 4:31.97. Senior Katherine Raphael also ran a strong 1,500 meter race, with a time of 4:34.18. Middle distance runners Calleigh Higgins and Arianna Lord had their collegiate debuts in this event. Higgins clocked in a time of 4:39.75 and Lord finished in 4:45.55.

In her debut in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Kayley DeLay ran a time of 11:00.44. Her race was marked by a tenacious effort over the barriers, and she gained valuable experience for future steeplechase races.

Dana Klein ran her first collegiate 5,000 meter race at Raleigh Relays and had the Bulldog's fastest time of the day, with a 16:54.62. Earlier in the day, Senior Kelli Reagan completed the same event with a 17:47.40 and sophomore Jane Miller ran a 17:52.33.

Closing out the day was Andrea Masterson in the 10,000 meter competition. Masterson had a spectacular day, running a personal best by 26 seconds, with an impressive 34:22.78. This time puts Masterson in serious contention for a regional's spot later in the season.

The distance women have decided to scratch their 4x800 for Saturday and will instead begin recovering and focusing on the next meet. The next competition will be the Mark Young Invitational, a home meet that will take place Saturday, April 7. More information regarding this meet will be posted in the coming week.
