NEW HAVEN, Conn.— Senior Andrea Masterson is building off a historic cross country season and kicking off her indoor track season. In an early season addition to the indoor track schedule, Masterson will be taking on professional and top NCAA competition on Saturday.
Masterson will be the sole Yale athlete to compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University this weekend. The meet features many athletes who, like Masterson, recorded high finishes at the recent NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championship.
In addition to collegiate athletes, Masterson will be competing against several professional athletes.
Masterson is slated to compete in the 5,000-meter run and is seeded in the second heat of athletes. The pace set for Masterson's heat is 15:40. Currently, her personal best in the event is 16:23, set during the last outdoor track season.
This meet provides a rare opportunity to race against both professional and top collegiate athletes, a combination that may very well propel Masterson to a new lifetime best.
In her most recent cross country campaign, Masterson recorded the top finishes of her life, building both her confidence, endurance, and strength over the course of the season. This weekend, in a competition at one of the most eminent facilities in the Northeast stacked with competition, will offer another opportunity to continue her impressive trajectory over the past few months.
