RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Yale women's track and field team opened up the season at the Raleigh Relays on Friday. The warm weather and excellent depth of competition proved to be a combination that propelled the Bulldogs to new lifetime bests in their season opener.

Sprinters Lillian Enes and Addison Coy competed in the 100-meter dash and 400-meter run, respectively, to start off the day. Enes ran a time of 12.42 in the 100-meter dash and Coy ran a time of 58.18 in the 400-meter run.

Kayley DeLay continued the upward trajectory from her indoor season into her season opener for the outdoor season. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, an event she began to focus on toward the end of her first-year season, she improved on her previous lifetime best by more than 20 seconds. She ran a time of 10:33.62, which earned her 11th overall in a deep field of competition.

Friday's performance places DeLay at number six on Yale's all-time list.

First year Jocelyn Chau opened up her season with a performance not far off her best time. In the 1,500-meter run, Chau finished 12th with a time of 4:22.77. Based on previous years in the east region, this will likely earn her a spot for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round, an impressive accomplishment so early in the season, particularly for a first-year athlete.

Chau's performance also places her at fifth on the all-time list in the 1,500-meter run.

To end the day, Andrea Masterson and Jane Miller took to the track in the 10,000-meter run. Both athletes recorded new lifetime bests in the event: a phenomenal accomplishment in itself, not to mention, in a season opener.

Masterson finished 10th overall in the event, besting her previous best time by more than 10 seconds by crossing the finish line in 34:10.34.

Remarkably, Miller ran more than two minutes faster than her lifetime best heading into the meet. She crossed the line in 35:12.65.

These finishes place Masterson and Miller at fourth and 7th respectively on the Yale all-time list.

On Saturday, first-year Samantha Friborg will take to the track in the 800-meter run. Complete results, as well as live results of the competition Saturday, can be found here.
