PRINCETON, N.J. -- First year Emma Vasen was the sole athlete to represent the Yale women's track and field team on day two of the ECAC Championships at Princeton.
The indoor and outdoor shot put school record holder competed in the shot put on Sunday morning and within several hours had doubled back to compete in the discus. Compared to the conditions for day one of the meet, Sunday presented the additional challenge of low temperatures and rain showers.
Vasen started off the day with a scoring performance in the shot put, throwing 13.58 meters, good for eighth place overall. She then followed up with a solid performance in the discus, throwing 35.09 meters.
The ECAC Championship concludes Vasen's season of competition on US soil before she crosses the pond for the HYOC international trip to take on Cambridge and Oxford at the end of June. Having won three events and finished second in one event at the Harvard-Yale qualifying meet, she easily earned a spot on the international trip. She is concluding her domestic season with two new school records and two scoring performances at the Ivy League Championship, a truly remarkable accomplishment for a first-year athlete.
Complete results for day two can be found here.
