Arnautou Posts Double-Double in Loss to Cornell

The Bulldogs will now need some help to win its sixth Ivy title in the last eight seasons.

Cornell dealt Yale a setback in the standings with a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs on Friday in Ithaca, N.Y.  Princeton won at Harvard and regained first place in the standings. 

With one match left in the season, Yale needs a win at Columbia on Saturday and a Princeton loss at Dartmouth.   Yale fell to 15-7 and 9-4 in league play.

Kathryn Attar and Kelley Wirth both had nine kills to lead the Bulldogs. Kate Swanson led the Bulldogs with 20 digs, while Franny Arnautou had a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs.

The scores of the match were 27-25, 25-22 and 25-19.  

Down late in the first set, Megan Rasmussen sparked the Bulldogs and pushed the set to the brink.  Rasmussen tied the set at 22 with an ace and a kill on consecutive points.  

The set was tied three more times with two kills from Attar before the Big Red pulled away.

The momentum carried over to the second set for Cornell, who went up 6-0 to begin the second set and led by as much as eight en route to victory.

Shreya Dixit gave Yale a 2-1 lead early in the third.  Back to back points from Attar, and block assists from Wirth and Chiara Spain gave Yale a 4-3 edge.

Cornell stormed ahead with the next seven straight points and the Bulldogs never recovered.
